The Ugly Duckling

1.
In a picturesque farmyard, there lived a little duck who was extremely ugly, unlike any of his duck family.
His siblings bullied him, and eventually, even his mother rejected him. The poor ugly duckling had no choice but to leave home and wander around.

He saw a group of wild ducks and wanted to play with them, but they said, "Ugly fellow, stay away from us."
2.
He then saw two geese, but they not only ignored him but also said, "Oh, where did this ugly fellow come from?"
Suddenly, a fierce yellow dog leaped out from the bushes, frightening the two geese away.
The poor ugly duckling, unable to fly, had to plead with the big yellow dog.
However, the dog just glanced at the ugly duckling, didn't bite him, and walked away.
3.
"It seems I'm really too ugly; even the dog despises me and won't bite me," sighed the heartbroken ugly duckling as he continued walking.
Before long, the ugly duckling arrived in front of a small wooden house. The kind old grandmother inside, seeing the pitiful ugly duckling, let him come in and rest.
However, the cat and chicken in the grandmother's house blocked him and wouldn't let him in.
They said to the ugly duckling, "Ugly fellow, quickly get out!"
4.
The saddened ugly duckling left the small wooden house. After walking for a few days, a kind-hearted woodcutter took him in and brought him home to take good care of him.
But the happiness didn't last long; he was soon driven out by the woodcutter's wife.
The poor ugly duckling had nowhere to go. As the weather got colder, he had to stay in the sparse reeds by the riverbank to avoid the cold wind.
5.
The cold winter came, and the ugly duckling, cold and hungry, fell asleep without realizing it.
In the blink of an eye, spring arrived, and the ugly duckling opened his eyes. To his astonishment, after enduring so much hardship, he had transformed into a beautiful swan.
From then on, he swam in the pond every day with other swans, and the children liked him very much.

6.
When we are not understood or accepted, we must not feel inferior. If we look down on ourselves, no one can help us.
The Ugly Duckling could transform into a beautiful swan; as long as we persist in being ourselves, what difficulties can possibly defeat us?
